Social media giant Meta stares at a parliamentary panel summons following CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s controversial remarks about the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

On Tuesday , BJP (MP) Nishikant Dubey, the head of parliamentary committee on communications and information technology, said that his team would summon Meta over its CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s statement that the Indian Government lost the election in 2024 because of the way of handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mark Zuckerberg : During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Mark Zuckerberg claimed that the due to its “weak Covid-19 response.”PM Modi-led dispensation lost the Lok Sabha polls. Nishikant Dubey adds to the comment that Meta will have to apologise for spreading disinformation.

“It is disappointing to see misinformation from Mr Zuckerberg himself. Let’s uphold facts and credibility,” Ashwini Vaishnaw, who heads the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, wrote on Meta-owned Facebook. “Mr Zuckerberg’s claim that most incumbent governments, including India in the 2024 elections, lost post-Covid is factually incorrect,” Vaishnaw asserted.

“My committee will call Meta for this disinformation. Misinformation in any democratic country tarnishes the image of the country. That organisation will have to apologise to the Indian Parliament and the people here for this mistake,” Dubey said in a post.

He also mentioned the achievements of Modi’s Government regarding distribution of free food to 800 million people, free vaccines to 2.2 billion people , and aid to nations worldwide during Covid.

Conclusion: As per Nishikant Dubey’s announcement, Meta will be summoned by the Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology to address the allegations of spreading misinformation. The committee is expected to seek an explanation from the company and demand an apology for destroying the image of the Indian democratic system by giving the statement.
