- High Weightage: Mechanics, Modern Physics, and Thermodynamics.
- Surprises:
- Fewer questions from EMI and AC chapters compared to Session 1.
- Absence of questions from current electricity.
- Student Feedback: Numerical problems were manageable, but conceptual clarity was crucial for theoretical questions.
2. Chemistry: NCERT-Focused and Time-Saving
- Difficulty: Easiest amongst the three subjects, with mostly direct NCERT-based questions.
- Key Topics:
- Organic Chemistry: General Organic Chemistry (GOC), Amines, Aldehydes, and Ketones.
- Inorganic Chemistry: Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds.
- Physical Chemistry: Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics (numerical-heavy).
- Student Feedback: Inorganic Chemistry was rather straightforward, while Physical Chemistry required some quick calculations.
3. Mathematics: Lengthy and Calculation-Intensive
- Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging, with time management as a critical hurdle many observed.
- Key Topics:
- Prominent Areas: Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors, 3D Geometry, and Algebra.
- Challenges: Integer-type questions and lengthy calculations in sections like Conic Sections.
- Student Feedback: Many found the section “balanced but time-consuming,” with some questions resembling JEE Advanced patterns, hence leaving no time for revisions.

JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Exam Analysis: Student Experiences
- Shift 1 (April 2):
- Physics had more mechanics-based questions, while Chemistry was mostly dominated by Organic Chemistry.
- Mathematics was deemed “slightly tougher” than Session 1, with calculus dominating.
- Shift 2 (April 2):
- Physics included modern topics like Semiconductors and Logic Gates, while Chemistry focused on Biomolecules unlike Shift 1(April 2).
- Mathematics saw a blend of easy and a few complex problems, testing both speed, accuracy and mostly testing your time management skills.
Common Complaints:
- Numerical-based questions in Physics and Mathematics required time taking calculations, leaving less time for revision.
- Uneven topic distribution in Chemistry, with some chapters being underrepresented.
On Reddit, many aspirants noted that “The Physics section felt manageable with a fair mix of theory and numerical problems, but the Mathematics section was the biggest hurdle due to its lengthy calculations. Some students mentioned that they had to rush through certain problems because every minute counted.”
Several students tweeted that “Shift 2 was slightly easier in Mathematics compared to Shift 1, and it was a relief not to see any questions on current electricity in Physics. The overall paper maintained a balanced structure, allowing those who managed their time well to perform confidently.”
JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Exam Analysis: Exam Pattern
- No Major Changes: As expected the exam pattern remained consistent with previous years—75 questions (25 per subject) along with negative marking.
- Unexpected Elements:
- A few “out-of-syllabus” topics like the Carnot cycle were reported but later it turned out to be NCERT-aligned.
- Increased focus on Class 12 topics mostly in Physics and Chemistry.
JEE Main 2025 Session 2 Exam Analysis: Expected Cutoffs
While the JEE Main 2025 Session 2 is far from being concluded, the official cutoffs will be released post-results, experts predict:
- General Category: 90+ percentile for top NITs, similar to 2024 trends.
- Reserved Categories: Cutoffs are likely to be lower—EWS around 83+, OBC-NCL near 78–92, SC around 61–92, and ST approximately 47–92.
- Factors Influencing Cutoffs:
- Higher competition due to over 10 lakh registrations in Session 2.
- Moderate difficulty level may lead to tighter percentile margins, meaning every mark counts.
